Prithviraj- Samvrutha Sunil starrer Maanikyakallu is the second venture from director M. Mohanan, whose debut film happens to be the super hit Kathaparayumbol. Like his first film, Maanikyakallu has almost the same ingredients, the most notable one being the village backdrop! The story happens in Vannamala Government School that had a glorious past, but is now on the verge of being shut down as there are less than 50 students enrolled. The teachers have lost all hope about making a difference to the situation and they have been using the school's premises for other profitable ventures like the principal (Nedumudi Venu) uses it as a warehouse for his fertilizing business. The music teacher (Jagadeesh) uses the classrooms for training his students to participate in the television reality shows. The physical trainer Chandni (Samvrutha Sunil) is more interested in the growth of her poultry business. The results for the final examinations are pathetic. To everybody's surprise, a young teacher named Vinayachandran (Prithviraj) requests for a transfer to the school. He attempts to make a change. Maanikyakallu is a pleasant movie like Kathaparayumbol, which has humor and sentiments in right dose. The characters in the film are very real and human. One such charector is Prithviraj's Vinayachandran. Samvrutha Sunil gives an average performance, while Jagadish, Salim Kumar, Jagathy Sreekumar, Kottayam Nazir, Anoop Chandran,Anil Murali, Suresh Krishna, KPAC Lalitha, Sona Nair showcase an outstanding performance. Songs by M. Jayachandran-Anil Panachooraan team apt for the theme. The camera work by Sukumar is good as always. In short, Maanikyakallu is a classy film that touches your heart.
