visit to India in August 1502. History looks kindly on the man who was the first to discover a trade route to the east through the sea but Santhosh Sivan strips away historical lore to reveal the atrocities he was responsible for perpetrating against the natives using his superior fire power. He slaughtered the natives by the hundreds, and was also guilty of persecuting the Muslims and commandeering large stores of valuable spices. The worst crime attributed to him is his attack on a Muslim ship and the massacre of its passengers including women and children who
were returning from a pilgrimage to Mecca.

at the time who went by the name of Chirrakal Kelu Nayanar (played by Prithviraj) and this warrior decided that the tyrant must die. His attempt to assassinate the famed explorer and form his own army to keep invaders away forms the crux of the plot. He is helped along the course of his perilous journey by Vavali (Prabhu Deva). Genelia plays a warrior Princess in the film. Tabu, Vidya Balan and Arya also have pivotal roles in this film.
