Priya Mani may be busy wrapping
up the shoots for her pending
south films, but she says she’ s also looking to do more
Bollywood films
Fresh from an unintentional
holiday of about four months -
owing to the Tollywood film
industry strike - when she got to spend time with family and
friends and even help in
organising her brother’ s wedding, Priya Mani is back to
gruelling shoot schedules.
Currently in Hyderabad in a
remote location that often sees
her phone outside coverage
areas, Priya is busy with her film Kshetram. “I was to start shooting for Kshetram in
December. Then the industry
went on strike. My Kannada films
Vishnuvardhana and Lakshmi
were also delayed, so I got a fair
bit of time for a holiday. We started shooting for Kshetram
about a week ago,” says the actress.
Kshetram, which sees her pair
with Jagapathi Babu for a third
time, has Priya very excited.
“This is not your run-of-the-mill commercial film. It is heroine-
centric and gives me an author-
backed role. This film will
hopefully give my Tollywood
career a new direction,” adds the National Award-winning
actress.
After a year of mixed fortunes
in the south and a Bollywood
debut, this year is relatively
thanda for Priya. She’ s just got three films in her kitty, all of
which she’ d committed to some time ago. Why isn’ t her career graph soaring? “The delay in the start of all three of my films
made my schedule go haywire, so
I was not able to commit to new
projects. But now, I’ ve almost wrapped up both my Kannada
films. I have about 10 days’ work left on Vishnuvardhana.
The Shivrajkumar-starrer
Lakshmi also should be completed
soon. We’ d started long ago, then Shivanna got busy with the
celebrations of his 25 years in
cinema and so on. My dates have
cleared up now and I am in talks
for a few Telugu projects,” adds Priya.
What about Bollywood, though?
Her debut in Raavan was much
talked about, after all. “My performance in Raavan made
people sit up and take notice. I
am not sure if Rakthacharitra 2
gave me that kind of mileage
because it wasn’ t received as well as the first part. I’ m not terribly worried about offers not
pouring in. I’ m doing quite well in the south and getting great
roles. But that doesn’ t mean that I don’ t want to try my luck in B-town again. I wouldn’ t mind having another shot and if
all goes well, that may happen
soon,” says Priya. Meanwhile, one actor she was
often linked to - Prithviraj - tied
the knot recently. Is she relieved
that the rumours will now die?
“If you’ ve noticed, all the eligible bachelors across
industries in the south are
getting hitched. That’ s good for us actresses,” she laughs and heads off to shoot for a scene
