Tabu is one of the very few actresses who can dazzle in all kinds of roles: be that of a housewife, a protagonist or a glamour girl. Very early in her career, Tabu won the national award for her unbelievable portrayal of a terrorism- affected girl in Gulzaar’ s 'Maachis' in the mid-nineties. She has also starred in a few Tamil films including Kaadhal Desam, Thaayin Manikodi, Snehidhiyae and Kandukondein Kandukondein.
Santosh Sivan, the noted cinematographer-cum-director,
has roped in Tabu to star in the trilingual film "Urumi’" to perform an "item number".
The talented Tabu was also approached to play Dhanush’ s mother-in-law in the film 'Maappillai' but she didn’ t take up the offer, which eventually was taken up by another Bollywood beauty Manisha Koirala. In this backdrop, Tabu's yes to the offer to perform an ‘ item number’ in "Urumi" has raised quite a few eyebrows.
The film "Urumi" is being shot simultaneously in Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi. Sources say that Tabu’ s decision (for the dance) might have been due to the fact that Santosh Sivan had been a close friend and one of the leading technicians in the country in his field.
