Prithviraj's Apology for his Secret Marriage...!

In a face to face programme, organised at Press Club here, the youth icon has sought pardon from those who feel his marriage should not have been held in such a secretive way at a
Palghat resort on April 25, 2011. Prithviraj said that he and his journo wife Supriya Menon, had always wanted their wedding to be a private function, exclusive to their close relatives. Prithvi had his reasons for his quiet romance as well. He said he thought that Supriya's privacy and freedom as a journalist would have been been spoilt, if she was identified as his sweetheart. He added that both of them were equally responsible for the decision. He justified his stand on giving misleading answers to media, when querried
on his affair. Prithvi said that the question posed before him was whether he knew Pratheeksha Menon, a Mumbai- based journalist. He said he vehemently denied the rumour as he had not even seen a girl by that name. Chiding away speculations that his star value and market had declined after the marriage, Prithvi said, "In fact, I am getting paid more after my marriage.

I lied to protect Supriya’ s privacy, confesses Prithviraj

Mollywood heartthrob Prithviraj
said here on Tuesday that he
uttered 'white lies' about his
marriage with BBC journalist
Supriya Menon to protect her
privacy.

"I admit that I lied when asked
about my marriage," he told
media persons here.

"Forgive me for that. I always
wanted my marriage to be a
private function. Supriya also felt
the same. The other choice was
to reveal our plans and request
you guys to give us some privacy. Since it was not
practical, I lied."

Prithviraj had surprised
everyone by tying the knot with
Supriya on April 25, after sharply
criticising the media for
publishing 'baseless' reports
about his friendship with her. The actor said he had misled the
media on his love affair since any
revelation would have affected
Supriya's career.

"For her profession, such
celebrity status is harmful," he
said. "She is a reporter who goes
out to the streets and
interviews people. The news that
she was going to marry an actor would have affected all that.
That is why I kept it a secret.
Did I do wrong?" he asked.

He added that he had spoken
about the media's lack of ethics
when a newspaper had linked
him with another journalist
working in Mumbai. "Spare a
thought for that girl's family," he said.

"I was not wrong on that count."
When asked whether his wife
'dominated' him, the actor
quipped: "The question smacks of
chauvinism. We are equal
partners in life."

Prithviraj for a New york honeymoon

As his movie 'Manikyakallu is gracing the theatres today, Prithviraj and his wife Supriya Menon has already set out for their honeymoon in New York. The newly wed couple will also participate in the New york Film Festival scheduled for 4-8 of May. Prithvi will attend the screening of his 'Veettilekkulla Vazhy' by Dr Biju, which is a movie in the official selection list. The couple will spend around a week in New York, before they come back to join his next schedule of the movie 'Thejabahai and family, which is being planned in Malaysia.

Star studded reception

It was a long walk to the stage.
All along the way were little
crowds of people, spending some
light moments together. A big
group, awaited their turn to
climb up the stage and wish the bride and groom. The groom
Prithviraj Sukumaran and his
bride Supriya Menon stood and
cheered their well-wishers. Five days after their much-
talked-about hush hush wedding
the actor and his journo wife
have opened the door to the
world to join their celebrations.
In a golden sherwani and red shawl, Prithvi’ s attire seemed to go well with Supriya’ s glittering red and green lehenga.
Prithvi’ s brother Indrajith, his wife Poornima and their mother
Mallika Sukumaran were present.
Indrajith’ s black suit complemented his wife
Poornima’ s white lehenga perfectly. Celebs kept pouring in —Archana Kavi, Asif Ali, Remya Nambeesan,
Kalabhavan Mani, and Mukesh — and all turned out surprisingly in
white. The stage was set ablaze
by the leading beauties of
Mollywood — Bhavana in a blue sari, Rima Kallingal in a yellow
salwar, Meera Nandan in pink
and blue, Remya Nambeesan in a
white sari. Also, Bhama, Mithra and Radhika
came together to greet the
couple. Young heroes — Jayasurya, Kunchako Boban,
Munna, Kailas, Vinu Mohan, Jishnu
and Asif Ali delighted in casual
attires. Seniors like Sreenivasan,
Biju Menon, Mukesh, Siddique, Lal,
Dileep, were also part of the fun and joy. Politicos made their presence felt
too, including Minister M.A. Baby,
G. Sudhakaran and K.
Karunakaran’ s daughter Padmaja. The food was thoroughly
sumptuous. Indian and Chinese
menus, a biriyani corner, dessert
and salads on one side were a
perfect end to the grand affair,
with a chocolate fountain and a gigantic wedding cake attracting
every eye.

Prithviraj : No more a bachelor boy in Mollywood

Prithviraj And so, the most eligible bachelor
in Kerala is finally ‘ officially’ hitched, putting to end all the
speculation and suspense. Well,
Prithviraj’ s ‘ Urumi’ maybe breaking box office records, but
the actor’ s popularity has certainly taken a beating, if the
reactions of the womenfolk in
the city to his hush hush
wedding are anything to go by.
They ranged from a
disinterested ‘ Really? Who is the girl?’ to an ardent ‘ I feel betrayed!’ But what everyone, fan or foe, wanted to know was
just this- Why the secret? Saranya, Vidhu, Sreeja and
Nileena, all masscom students,
say that they don’ t have any problem with their favourite
actor getting married, but they
have completely lost trust in his
words. “He always pretended to be this righteous person who is
all ethical and moral. But what
has he done now? Tomorrow he
might get divorced and marry
another girl, and we will never
get to know about it,” says Saranya. Vidhu seconds her
opinion. “Getting married is of course his personal thing but
why lie? Last week he said
specifically in a magazine that he
has no idea what everyone is
talking about. And we all heard
his mother saying the wedding will be on May 1.” Sreeja also feels that she has lost faith in
the actor. “We used to think that he was the only one among
the actors who means what he
says, but not any more.” So will they stop watching
Prithiviraj’ s films from now? “That’ s an entirely different matter. We will continue to
watch good movies, whether he
is in it or not. But he is definitely
going to lose some of his female
fans.” And there were also many who said that the news meant
nothing to them because ‘ they never liked him anyway.’ “ He is so full of hot air,” says Anjana, a medical student. However, not everyone is as
balanced. Preethi, a second year
engineering college student in
the city, burst into tears on
watching the news on TV, ‘ more out of shock than anything
else’ according to her friends. Preethi refused to comment on
the issue, saying she had
‘ nothing to say now that it was all over.’ And wait, the young and single
are not the only ones shocked
by the news. Thresya, a maid at
a ladies’ hostel in the city, says. “I’ m sure all you girls had your eye on him and secretly wished
he would marry you. I’ m a bit too old for him, otherwise I
would have my eye on him too,” says the feisty lady, well into
her forties. “The good thing is all of you can go to sleep
peacefully now. You don’ t need to waste your time on him
anymore,” she laughs. But Annamma, another maid,
disagrees. “He is a good boy. I’ m sure he never gave false promises to any girl. But why the
suspense? Why couldn’ t he have said that he had a girl in mind
though it is not the girl in
question?” And what do they think of THE
girl in question, right now the
first lady of Malayalam cinema?
“Of course we don’ t like her,” echo the die-hard fans. “Not at all a good match. We thought he
would marry Samvrutha Sunil.” And the final verdict? “No use thinking about what is over.
There will be more Prithvirajs
coming up.” and “Being a public figure, they should have been
more open with the media.”

personal affair because in our
family there are very aged
people and they wanted it to be a solemn function, and
hence we decided to make it a
very private affair,' Prithivraj's
mother, actress Mallika
Sukumaran, told media persons
outside a resort, near the bride's residence here. Denying it was a secret affair,
she said: 'They have been
childhood friends and we have
known each other for a very
long time and there was
nothing secretive in this.' Prithviraj's late father,
Sukumaran was also an actor
and created a special place for
himself in the film industry
through his dialogue delivery
and subtle acting. Mallika also told media persons
that there would be two
receptions - one on Saturday
for family, and another the
next day for the film
fraternity. Incidentally, Prithviraj had
denied rumours and
speculations of his impending
marriage when he was in
Thiruvananthapuram April 1
for a press meet after the release of his period film
'Urumi'. Supriya, who is from Palakkad,
is a journalist and worked as a
BBC TV correspondent in
Mumbai. She would come here
once in a while to do special
stories. Prithviraj hails from the capital city. The 28-year-old actor made a
successful debut with
'Nandanam' and has starred in
more than 50 films, including
blockbusters like

Prithvi ties the marital knot

Supriya is the lone daughter of Vijay Kumar Menon and Padmaja residing at Mumbai. Born in Kerala, she done her schooling from Mumbai and later her graduation in journalism from University of London. She joined BBC in 2007, after working for many famous National TV channels and concentrates on rural reporting. Prithviraj who commented in many interviews earlier about beautiful girls who doesn't match his intellectual levels is said to have been attracted to the intellect of the lady who is a hardworking journalist. Prithvi's fans and admirers are indeed surprised why their favourite actor has maintained so much suspense and mystery over his marriage.
