A fresh face for Prithvi
Prithviraj will appear in an altogether different look for the new movie 'Louis Araman'. The actor will present himself as a seminary student with a clean shaven face and white dress, all set to become a priest in the movie written and directed by debutantes Reckon Antony and Rejis Estony. Madhu Neelakantan is the cinematographer of the movie which will have many more high lights.
Meanwhile, Prithvi will start acting in his first Hindi movie 'Ayya' in a short while. Basically a cross-cultural love story with the right mix of comedy and romance, the movie will have Prithvi as a Tamil boy, who falls in love with a Maharastrian girl played by Rani Mukherjee. The movie is produced by Anurag Kashyap.
Rani Mukherjee who is currently attending the workshop for the film has a high opinion for the actor in Prithvi. ''At first glance I found him extremely good-looking and charismatic, which explained why he is such a huge star down South. Though he's a Malayalam superstar, Prithviraj was just like one of us and very friendly'' says Rani.

The invasion of Kollywood
Kollywood heroes such as Vijay, Suriya, Vikram and Sarath Kumar have a cult following that surpass that of our own youth icons such as Prithviraj.
This is apparent from the posters that can be seen all over the State and right besides Mollywood posters too!
Vijay understands his fans very well and made it a point to visit Kochi on Saturday to promote his forthcoming film Velayudham.
In fact, so intense are the feelings of his fans that all the junior artists needed for the final scene of the film, which had to be shot in a stadium in Kochi, were filled buy his fans themselves.
Few have come close to the lover boy image Vijay has portrayed, not to mention his talent for dancing and singing.
Vijay says, “I am happy that the Kerala audience has been a big part of my success.” He was also a present in Thiruvananthapuram to celebrate the success of his earlier films Pokkiri and Vettakaran.
Another actor who makes girls go gaga over him at any of the theatre screenings of his films is Vikram. Boys secretly vow to hit the gyms to develop similar biceps.
Keralites have always considered Vikram to be their ‘own Kerala boy’ long before he was claimed by Kollywood. Many of his fans in Kerala claim him because had done small roles with Mammootty, Suresh Gopi and Jayaram even before Kollywood knew him.
His visits to the State have always created intense media and fan frenzy. Fans of all ages adore him for his acting and his humble, down-to-earth attitude. Being a Malayali at heart, he reciprocates this sentiment.
He says, “There cannot be happier news than that! It is wonderful to know that one of the most perceptive and knowledgeable audience in the nation likes my work and I love my Kerala fans.”
Many Kollywood films are dubbed in Malayalam and screened on various television channels. Sarath Kumar as ‘Edachena Kungan’ in Pazhassi Raja garnered a lot of adulation as Mammootty did.
He acted in various Mollywood movies and has a set of loyalists who swear by his skills. On a recent visit to Guruvayoor, he was amazed by the attention of his fans and says, “I was touched by the love, hugs and affection shown by the Malayali audience who have always encouraged and consistently applauded my performances. I feel very emotional about their support and acceptance of me.”
When 12-year-old Sreya cuts out his pictures from magazines and sticks them on her cupboard, it’s not for his acting skills but loves his looks and song sequences.
Suriya’s fan following is legendary with the rights of his new film 7 Aum Arivu reportedly sold for a whopping Rs 2.50 crore in Kerala alone. This is a star in absentia, yet very popular with the Malayali cine goers.
Kollywood superstars with their looks, choreographed dances and stunts are capturing Malayali cine-goer’s hearts. It’s a sort of a reply to Mollywood beauties, who are making a mark in Kollywood.

Straight shot at success
Precisely why there is no room for surprise when actor Prithviraj says ‘cinema is my life’. Be it exploring characters or producing meaningful cinema, he has been breaking new ground. Indeed, the effort is bearing fruits. In fact Urumi, a historical fantasy film in Malayalam, which he co-produced and acted in, will be opening the Indian Panorama section at IFFI 2011.
With a string of South Indian films behind him, the actor is now set to make a foray into Bollywood. Meanwhile, he traces his growth as an actor, and well so, in a refreshingly candid manner.
It may be hard to pin an image on Prithviraj, but he best describes himself as a director’s actor.
“My performance has a lot to do with what a director gets out of me. I mould myself according to what the director wants. With each director, you get to discover a different you,” he says.
Ever since his entry with Nandanam, he has been sashaying from subtle roles to dramatic and comic ones. In the process, does he get the liberty to improvise? “Actors interpret the character. I bring in what I think is best for the character. And when you have been in this field for some time, the directors value your input,” he says.
On the threshold of a Bollywood career, he talks about what to look forward to.
“The film is Aiyya, a quirky love story of a Maharashtrian girl and a Tamil boy, directed by Sachin Kundalkar. I play the Tamil boy while Rani Mukherjee plays the girl. Rani is making an outstanding effort to comprehend the character. She’s so amazingly prepared that it scares you,” he adds.
Bollywood, he feels, is going through a great experimental phase. “Films like Delhi Belly and Dhobi Ghat speak a lot. A decade ago, these would have been brushed off as art films. It is very heartening to find people watching them.”
‘Indian Rupee’, which is his second production in Malayalam, has been receiving rave reviews too.
“It is a social satire and very entertaining. I play the young real estate dealer who is out to make a quick buck,” he informs.
While that film may have sent a message across, does he think films have a social
responsibility?
“If there is any message to give, it should be a byproduct. Social responsibility should be unintentional in films. I don’t think the audience like being brought to the theatre and told what to do.”
Films apart, there are other interests as well. “I am not a social animal. I like reading and travelling. Every year, I try to make a trip to the Himalayas. Bike rides,” he specifies.
But success hasn’t come without barbs of criticism. “The idea is to understand whether the criticism you receive is constructive. If not, I don’t pay attention to it. It’s tough when your
family is dragged into the so-called public domain.

Prithviraj to play new age Louis VI
Actor Prithviraj's latest venture may sound like a blast into the past, but it is far from it.
He has been signed on to play Louis VI in debutant directors Jikson and Rajeesh Anthony's Louis Aaraman. No, not the 18th century tyrant French King, but the sixth son of a Catholic Kuttanadu couple. The film will have the Mozhi actor in an entertaining role of an young man who fails his Class X Board exams several times so he doesn't have to fulfill his parent's vow of making him a pastor.
Meanwhile, Prithvi, who was last seen in Kollywood in Mani Ratnam's Raavanan, seems to have taken a break from signing more films here. Looks like his fans will have to feel content with just catching him in dubbed Tamil versions of his Malayalam films like Urumi.

Malayalam actor Prithviraj to romance Rani Mukerji
Malayalam actor Prithviraj will begin shooting for Anurag Kashyap's production, Aiyya. The film will be directed by National Award-winning Marathi filmmaker Sachin Kundalkar.
The film is about the romance between a Maharashtrian girl (played by Rani Mukerji) and a Tamilian boy (Prithviraj).
The actor has earlier acted in the Tamil version of Mani Ratnam's Ravan, in which Aishwarya Rai Bachchan played his heroine.
Prithviraj has had offers from the Hindi industry before as well but was waiting for the right time to make his Hindi film debut. His latest release, Indian Rupee (which incidentally was produced by his own banner, August Cinemas), has been appreciated by the audience. He is currently shooting for Johny Antony's Masters.
