Last week (April
29), saw
multiple
releases, and all
of them failed. Five films- City of God (released in some
places on April 22),
Bhaktajanangalude
Sradhaykku, Lucky Jokers,
Melvilasom, Mohabbath made it
to screens on the April 29 weekend. Sadly all the five bombed
miserably at the box-office,
though Melvilasom and
Bhaktajanangalude
Sradhaykku carried super
reports. There was hardly any publicity and the public never
knew that the films released. Says trade analyst and
veteran distributor KJ Joy:
"There was no release
strategy nor any kind of
publicity for the release of
these films. The Vishu biggies like China Town and Urumi had
blocked all better screens, yet
the producers went ahead and
released at their own risk. The
total loss from these five films
will be around Rs 12 Cr." But nobody seems to be
bothered as May will see a
record 10 releases. This
weekend will see Manika Kallu
and Seniors clashing in limited
screens.
